This species is less frequently collected than the sympatric C. californicus. Whether this beetle is actually less common than C. californicus or whether they just occupy a slightly different niche is unknown. While these beetles are usually picked up by sweeping, they occasionally show up in pitfall traps. This is probably a case of the optimal collecting technique not being employed to obtain this species.
