Test set-up for both beams before testing Results and Discussion Cylinder tests The cylinders were tested on the same day as the beams. A total of 8 cylinders were tested using a cylinder tester. All cylinders tested were capped using a sulfur cement cap at each end to uniformly distribute the load from the loading head to the concrete cylinder. Table 4-2 contains the results from the cylinder tests. The average compression strength for the cylinders tested was 6.06 ksi and the coefficient of variance was 2.3%. Typical cylinder types of fracture were: (a) cone and (b) cone and shear. The low coefficient of variance was an indication of strength consistency of the concrete.
