This independence was due to the relatively long HRT and high reaction rate. In fact, if the STA 3/4 received all inflow without first routing through the reservoir it would still achieve an outflow concentration of 0.021 mg/L. This result does not account for mass loading and its long term effect on the STA. Therefore, such an operating scheme is not suggested.
