Schmidt Method to Calculate the Maximum Temperature Rise in a Mass Concrete Pour
Schmidt Method (Chapter 2) can be used to calculate the maximum temperature
rise for a given mass concrete element. For Schmidt Method calculations adiabatic
temperature rise curve of the concrete mix, placing temperature of concrete, air
temperature and ground temperature need to be known. An example of the Schmidt
Method calculations is presented here.
For this example following assumptions have been made:
Mass Concrete Element: A square concrete footing with 20 ft by 20
ft dimensions and 6 ft thickness,
Concrete Mix: FDOT Class IV with Type II Portland Cement,
Total Cementitious Material = 800 lb/yd3
