interested in finding out is how kids your age in general think-we don't need to know how any one particular kid thinks. The other is that we want you to feel free to answer honestly, because you know that no one will ever know how you answered. One more thing, we hope that taking the survey will be an interesting experience. But there's a chance that some kids might find some of the questions upsetting to think about, or might have some things that they want to talk about afterwards. Your counselors know this, and they'll be ready to talk to anyone who wants to talk. [Here, we will provide more specifics if the school desires-e.g., "Mrs. Smith will be in her office from 3 to 4 every day this week."] We hope all this is clear! Does anyone have any questions before we start? Remember, if you have questions when you're taking the survey just raise your hand and we'll try to answer them. And if you have any questions after you're done we'll be here to talk to you. (Miller, 2001)
