Yet, the entire rail-trail has been infused with history dating back to the 17th century Spanish Explorers. The trail head show- cases a progression through the history of power, starting out in Nebraska City with a coal power plant and ending in Brownsville at a nuclear power plant. At the Peru trail head, there is the option for the user to exit the rail-trail and grab a bite to eat in the historic downtown or visit the historical Peru State College. Traveling on to Brownsville on the rail-trail, distinct landmarks indicate the arrival of the Brownsville State Recreation Area where the option of fishing presents itself to the user and is another example of the wonderful sometimes surprising recreational opportunities that a rail-trail can present.
