Again, afteran many disputes, both legal and otherwise, the railroad company finally followed through with their promise of a rail depot, which was completed in 1883. The area was becoming prosperous with its citrus farming, which had its beginnings with the Spaniards giving orange seeds to the Natives upon their arrival in the 1600s. The wild orange trees in the area were so thick and numerous that in the process of land owners clearing them to build, enough trees were removed to set up large groves within McIntosh, Micanopy and many other towns in the surrounding region.
