at Belize.

 Perennial; culms csespitose, erect, 45 to 60 cm. tall; panicles more than
 half the length of the culms; panicle branches widely spreading, naked
 below, few-flowered; spikelets 5 mm. long, on stiff, capillary, spreading
 pedicels; glumes purple-tinged, the florets pale. Pinelands, wet woods, and
 wet grassy savannas, southern United States to British Honduras and the
 West Indies.

British Honduras and western South America.
