computes the total cost of the diet: each ingredient is divided by the total
amount and multiplied times its cost; then all costs are added. Line 2390
calculates the percent of dry matter on an as fed basis, while line 2410 computes
the number of pounds intake per day on an as fed basis. Line 2430 computes
the final weight and rounds it to the nearest pound. The total cost of feeding
is calculated byline 2450: total cost of the diet times the number of pounds
intake per day as a tonnage percentage times the number of feeding days. Net
return per animal above feed cost is calculated in line 2470: final weight
(in cwt) times selling price minus total cost of feeding minus initial weight
(in cwt) times purchase price. This figure is rounded to two decimal places
by line 2480.
Printing instructions for the result are contained in lines 2490 to 2750.
Notice that all ingredients have been converted back to a dry matter basis by
multiplying them times the same factor used before.
Line 2760 provides the opportunity to change some of the variable values,
rerun the program, or terminate the program. The changes are given by lines
2770 to 2850. Line 2860 takes the user back to line 330 to select either option,
while line 2870 ends the program if a Z is entered.
Growing and Finishing Phases
This section of the program works in a similar fashion as the "growing
only" section. If a 2 is entered in the selection question (line 440), the
program goes to line 460. From this point, the input section and the cal-
culations are performed as before. The program ends if a Z is entered in
line 1590.
