The Tanzania Farming Systems Project achieved notable success within a relatively short lifespan. Starting in March, 1983, and concluding in September, 1986, the Project introduced and demonstrated the effectiveness of a new approach to agricultural research and extension in Tanzania, one which placed greater emphasis on farmer input and participation.
