South FROM Page 8 which was held in Harbour Island, Eleuthera, from May 17th to 24th. This was my first trip to Harbour Island and I was truly thrilled to be chosen as Epworth’s delegate. There was a lot of business to be taken only hoped that, should this unique opportunity arise again, more of the children will be able to participate. Michelle Lowe, the principal of Cherokee All Primary School, is preparing for the summer break but tells me that a Drama Night is being planned for sometime in June for the students and she hopes that the community will make plans to join them The final date has not yet been set; however, it will be posted so everyone can attend. At the end of April the school children were visited by some travelling Minstrels, three young men from Canada who played the guitar, sang songs and told stories. They are part of the Youth Year of Service Program which was sponsored by the Nassau chapter of the Baha’i Faith. Some of the children remembered the group as they have visited Cherokee before. Summertime is fast approaching us. Everyone is making their plans for travel, visitors or maybe camping. I know the children are all looking forward to it as they always have. Cherokee is such a wonderful place during the summer. I believe sometimes that the population of children out numbers those of the adults for they seem to be everywhere, enjoying the sun, the sand and the sea. And as one generation is replaced by another, summer in Cays FROM Page 25 September all 7th through 12th grade students will join those students already travelling daily by ferry and bus to high schools on Abaco. Congratulations to Amelia McIntosh, Jason McIntosh and Danielle Sawyer, who were awarded scholarships by the Argyll Foundation. All three students will attend Forest Heights Academy in Marsh Harbour beginning September 1998. Our community still awaits the coroner’s investigation into the death of Jeannie Pinder. There has been much talk and speculation about when and where the case will be heard. But nothing official. It has now been eight months since Mrs. Pinder died. Our community is not likely to ever forget and will continue to seek justice for Jeannie. Mr. Harcourt shown Thompson is accepting a medical kit being donated by Bernadina Shirley, affectionately known as Aunt Bea. The kit will be for the Man-O- War Clinic to provide better emergency service to the residents and visitors of that island. Cherokee is still a time of joy and wonderment. Club Cherokee has once again been to the Long Dock to mow and pick up litter. Maybe some of our residents don’t realize it but we not longer have anyone to clean our streets as Mr. Hamilton once did. Yes, there are people who are paid to take care of the perimeter parks, mowing and cleaning up debris, but we must all be responsible for our own immediate areas. So, if litter is left by your front door, don’t expect someone else to come along and pick it up. It will stay there till you clean it up. If you do not clean it up, passers-by can only assume you are a messy person and do not have enough pride to lean over, pick up and dispose of it. We want to thank the Club Cherokee group for all the work they voluntarily care of and yet time left over for fellowship. [I wish to take _ this opportunity to publicly thank the nine host churches of the North Eleuthera Region and the Central Conference Headquarters in Nassau.] The whole week end, not only from the business end but transportation, food and lodgings was all well organized and everything moved along like clock work throughout the whole conference. It was evident that much effort, planning and preparation was set out well in advance for everything to proceed so smoothly. If only our own Local government could pick up a few pointers. Where before something could be handled locally by the Board of Works, now even seemingly simple matters have to be taken to Council meetings. Just answer me one question, why do they call it "Local Government"? I hear a lot of gumblings from many quarters about this same thing. Moore’s Island By Josette Green Workshop Held History was made on Moore’s Island on April 6th and 7th when a long awaited event took place. It was an answer to a long existing prayer of both the principal and teachers of Moore’s Island All Age School. This historic event was that of a teachers’ workshop. After much requesting for such an event by Principal Christopher E.
