Forest Heights Academy Graduation Provided by Forest Heights Academy This year sees our largest graduating class. The graduation ceremony will take place at the Below Decks Lounge at Abaco Beach Resort on the 17th of June and the key note speaker will be the Hon. Zhivargo Laing, Minister of Youth and Sports. Many of the graduates have already secured their future either by enrolling in further education of by being placed in a business on Abaco. The class has worked hard throughout their school life and they fully deserve the success that will come their way. Awards Subject and school awards will be presented to grades 7 through 11 on the 18th of June. This awards ceremony will be held at the present school site at 6 p.m. so that as many parents as possible can attend. The purpose of this evening is to honour the students who have made a contribution to the school or have received top honours in_ particular subjects. New Campus The faculty and students are eagerly looking forward to September 1998 when we move onto our new campus. Already the buildings are a landmark and people comment daily on the shape, size and colour of the structure. The new facilities include a large library, excellent sports facilities, large bathrooms with changing areas and showers, a "state of the art" science laboratory, central — air- conditioning and a music room. The Saints are Marching By Shawn O'Donnell Not being as large as the other schools does not bother St. Francis de Sales. When it comes to competing, they go all out! The Saints came away from a recent track meet with their share of the medals. With twenty athletes coached by the P.E. instructor Shawn.O’ Donnell, the Saints won a total of ten medals. The medal winners included Joanna Clensier. silver, softball throw; Cicero Henriquez, gold, long jump; Brittany Sawyer, bronze, 400 m.; Natasha Arte, gold, long jump and bronze, 800m. The girls’ 4 x 100 m. relay team, Brittany Sawyer, Natasha Arte, Marcia McKenzie and Viline Baptiste, won a bronze. The Saints will be sending three of its members to Nassau to compete in the National Primary Track and Field Meet. They include Natasha Arte, long jump; Cicero Henriquez, long jump; and Joanna Clensier, softball throw. Congratulations go to all members of the Saints who practiced hard, tried their best and had fun because that’s what it’s all about! Hope Town School Principal Honored By Candace Key Principal Candace Key of the Hope Town Primary School was honored to be asked to attend a week long workshop in Nassau recently. She met with several other principals, College of the Bahamas professors and the Ministry of Education officials to revise a Caricom module Teaching Multi-Grade Classrooms. The handbook will be used by teachers in the Caribbean, African nations and throughout Asia who are teaching multi- grades. The facilitator of the workshop was Caricom’s Director of Education, Dr. Lucy Steward from London, England. Swim Meet Held By Candace Key Hope Town School students eagerly look forward to the annual Perry Cooke Memorial Swim Meet each year. It is an open water meet held in White Sound harbour. The school would like to offer its sincere thanks to swim coach Carrie Cash for her untiring, dedicated training of the Hope Town children for the past 367-2265 ve, Abaco Hardware Don MacKay Blvd. Gibson ipAC several years. We are indebted to the Hope Town Lodge, Abaco Inn, Patrick Stuart and his set-up crew and Mrs. Molly Anderson for the use of their facilities and their donated time. We are very fortunate to have these facilities and the time of community members who help in the meet’s success each year. It was an honour to have Mrs. Cheryl Cooke officially open the meet (held in her husband’s memory) this year. Mr. Jackson McIntosh, District Superintendent of Schools, welcomed to the meet the swimmers from the various schools on Abaco and gave a brief history of the meets. Charlie Cooke and Patrick Stuart acted as meet announcers. Sandra Cooke traveled from Nassau to help out and daughter Jessica Cooke proudly swam away with high point senior girl’s trophy. Hope Town’s Nurse Lettie Martz soothed children’s jellyfish stings with brand new _ state-of-art reusable pads. It was a status symbol to carry one around. They are formulated to work on all sea stings. Great Folks! Great Day! This year ten schools took part in the meet.
