Questions were raised over a piece of public land in White Sound that has been taken over by freight companies, garbage containers and various contractors. A pre- vious Council member disclosed that it was to be divided between commercial purposes and a public park area. Freight uses were to be assigned a strip 75 feet wide with the balance improved for a park. Questions arose over charging rent for those using it for commercial purposes. Other comments made without answers or further comment were: ¢ How can Elbow Cay restrict vehicle size and control oversized vehicles on the island? ¢ Government receives a 10 per cent stamp tax on all land sales. Since all land south of White Sound is valued at $1 mil- lion or more, each sale nets government over $100,000. Yet, the District was given ‘Tw an annual increase of $8,076 to be shared between the three island towns. Why so stingy? © Objections were made of the upcom- ing election in Man-O-War Cay to replace two appointed Councillors. It appeared that Man-O-War was being picked on as there was no mention of holding similar elections on the other districts which had appointed Committee members. Hope Town District Council Met In keeping with their practice of rotat- ing meetings between Hope Town, Man- O-War and Guana Cay, Councillors held their July 27 meeting on Man-O-War Cay. Routine minor matters were before the Council. A land owner in Hope Town Please see CaysS Page 25 inAir CALYPSO SPECIAL FREIGHT RATE Marsh Harbour 367-0140 + Treasure Cay 365-8660 Ft.
