Hope Town Council holds press conference Abaco and The Abaconian attended the July 17 press conference of the Hope Town Council. The Councillors felt victimized by the election process called to replace the two Man-O-War Councillors who had been originally appointed. Insufficient persons nominated originally to fill the three posi- tions. Chief Councillor Jeremy Sweeting referred to this action by Central Govern- ment as the “firing” of these two members which amounted to political victimization. Mr. Sweeting pointed out that only Man-O-War was singled out for this ex- ercise although there were many districts with similar appointed members serving. Two people who had previously rep- resented Man-O-War on the Council gave brief remarks on the Hope Town dock after the press conference. They had not been permitted to attend the conference held in the Council office upstairs beside the Post Office. They felt that long-standing and accept- ed practices in Man-O-War were being dis- mantled by the present Council. They did not feel that the present Council’s actions were always in the town’s best interests.
