 Description of the Food Chain


Choose one of the major staples in your country and draw a commodity chain for it. Try to
assess how much of the commodity (either in absolute or percentage terms) goes through
each channel.


 Activity 3-2
 Calculation of Dependency Ratios


From Food Balance Sheet data, calculate the dependency ratio (% of imports relative to total
consumption) for the major food commodities in your country. Then do the same exercise for
total calories consumed.
