It is not only the metropolis of England and the chief town of thé British Empire, but it is the metropolis of the world, Situated as it is, on both banks of the river Thames, and at the head of the greatest Empire of the world, it is not only a large commercial, but a great jmancial centre. The City occupies a County, in itself, and is governed by a Lord Mayor, twenty- six Aldermen and two hundred and six Councilmen. London is the home of Queen Victoria, and here, too, are located the great Houses of Parliament.
