TARGET POPULATION, TARGET FARMERS


A population of farmers (generally with similar CROPPING and
LIVESTOCK PATTERNS, methods of production and potentials) that is
the pFocus of a particular project. Sucn populations are also
called TARGFT FARMERS.



TECHNOLOGY

The combi'a~ion of all the management practices used for producing
and otherwise managing a given cr,'p, crop mixture, livestock, or
other farm, activity.



TRUCK FARMING

Commercial vegetable production primarily intended for sale in
urban areas.



UNIT FARM

A model farm, managed by a representative farmer, used for testing
and evaluatr.g proposed FARMING SYSTEM changes and the results of
COMPONENT RESEARCH.



UPLAND CROP

Crop grown -n unirrigated land without impounding water and not
grown in flooded valley bottoms.



UPSTREAM RESEARCH

That part oF FARMING SYSTEMS RESEARCH concerned with understanding
the existing FARMING SYSTEM via BASELINE DATA, problem
identification and subsequent analysis, COMPONENT RESEARCH, and
the signn and modelling (via experimentation or other means) of
changes to the existing farming system. It contrasts with
DOWNSTREAM RESEARCH
