AGROCLIMATIC ZONE. AGROCLIMATIC ENVIRONMENT An area or iet of areas, not necessarily contiguous, with similar agroclimatic conditions such that, under a given management regime, crop or animl' species exhibit approximately the same biological expression throughout the zone. AGROECOLOGICAL ZCNE An area or group of non-contiguous areas having the same or very similar cia-acteristics from an ecological and agronomic point of view. AREA SAMPLING, FIELD SAMPLING The samplin3 method whereby a field is chosen randomly and then the cultivator of the field interviewed. Fields may be chosen by randomly locating coordinates on a m.p of scale 1:50 000. ASSOCIATED CROPPING The simultaneous planting of two or more crops within the same row or within tie same hill. Also known as MIXED-ROW CROPPING. BASELINE DATA Data collected e.g., on crop yields, labour inputs, or market prices t eore a project begins and against which a project's results can be evaluated. BASELINE SURVEY, BENCHMARK SURVEY A survey : o a TARG0T AREA before other project work begins so as to obtain information against which th, project's effects can be eva lated.
