- 157 - opacities alone are sufficient to reduce the temperature from T at r = 0 to TR at r = R, then T(r,0) represents an acceptable solution to the energy balance equation (8.49). If the end point temperature exceeds TR, the calculation is repeated by searching for the seed ratio, sO, for which T(R,s0) < TR. Results of Temperature Distribution Calculations The calculated temperature distributions are essentially dependent on five parameters. These are (1) reactor pressure, (2) centerline plasma temperature, (3) fuel and coolant density profiles, (4) heat generation rate, and (5) seed ratio. The temperature calculation technique is described for a typical case defined by the following parameters: core radius = 4 ft graphite reflector thickness = 2 ft pressure = 100 atm seed material - tungsten centerline temperature = 20,000*K Nu(O) = 2.86 x 1019/cc NU(4) = 2.86 x 1017/CC bU = 2.0 ft N (0) = 1.0 X 1017/CC H NH(rH) = 4.0 × 1019/c
