BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

 Joan Arrington Browder was born 2 September 1937 in

Enid, Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Kyle O'Neil

Arrington and Syble Wiley Arrington of Amarillo, Texas.

She completed high school at Amarillo High School in 1954

and received her first two years of undergraduate work at

Amarillo College and West Texas State College in Canyon.

She entered the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida,

in January 1968 and was graduated cum laude in August 1970

with a degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in

biology. She entered graduate school at the University of

Miami in September 1970 and was granted the degree of

Master of Science in biology in January 1973. Graduate

work in the Department of Environmental Engineering

Sciences at the University of Florida began in January

.1973. She has worked toward a PhD since May 1973, while

holding a graduate research assistantship with the

University of Florida's Center for Wetlands.
