I3. 118qu BARR!!! "co Vidal-an! hvhul untruemm 'ltl'hdht "DCUP October 16, 1952 Honorable C. Farris Bryant Ocala Florida Dear Farris: I have your conaunication enclosing tentative list of committees for next session, which list is returned hereaith, preferences being indicated thereupon, as suggested. I feel that our county is entitled to substantial representation upon the more important committees, for the reason that ea do have a three-member delegation and for the further reason that our county represents a proximately 5! of the State population and produces sonee t more than 5! of the State revenue and 5! is, of course, one-twentieth. Hy legislative experience is covered by the Sessions of 19N1-M3~%5. During the Sessions of 'RB and '35, I served as Chairman of Committee on Insurance. Also served on Finance and TaXation, and in that committee was Chairman or one of two standing sub-committees, which sub-conaitteea actually made examination and, in effect, disposition of a large nuaber of tax bills neatly which did not fit into the then picture. I have previously served on Constitutional Aaendaents, Anuseaents, Railroad and Telegraph Public health Judy "A" and "B", I think each of then, and I believe on dudy "c", and several other oomndttees not can recalled. y committee assignments were not as strong during ay service as perhaps might otherwise have been the case for the reason that Archie Clements, throughout my service had two-tern seniority over me and as a result ginit, quite properly, the more important assignments vent to I feel that in vian of n? past experience I ahOuld alao be assigned as Chairman or, she 1 as sag a middle ground" couittee. Naturally, I vould like one of he importantcon- aitteea, but I realise that ay having been absent for three terms and having had no part in the recent activity and, in- cidentally, no actual part in your selection as Speaker, these top places probably should go to someone else. Hon. c. Farris Bryant October 16, 1952 I realise that I did not have the privilege or ser- ving eith you, and therefore you are not too well acquainted with my disposition, temperament, or capacity. I am sure, however, that if you have an opportunity to talk eith Perry Hurray, llbert Stewart, Dick Simpson, Ben Fugue Butler bonds, or any of the others she know me, they sill tel you that I am a person eoeeehat on the conservative side, and inclined to keep my feet on the ground; that I was regular in atten- dance and attended to my assignments. I'have made no commitments in the say of Campaign promises other than primarily for an increase of teachers' salaries, for substantial aid to Chattahoochee and Raitord and to hold the line on tax, if possible. whose commitments point to Finance and Taxation orlippro riations, but never having served onAppropriations, I to that I could serve more effectively on Finance and Taxation. Frankly, I feel that our dale tion is entitled to representation on most, if not all of he more important committees and, not to be immodest or hoggish I feel that perhaps the heaviest assignments should tell me. All of this, of course, is subject to m and our election on hovemher hth. we have serious Repub icon oppo- sition and while I am hopeful that we may be victorious, there is at this moment no certainty about that. Our county will cast a minimum of 50,000 and perhaps 60,000 or more votes and there are literally thousands upon thousands of them that are relatively nee ople, and mill vote more or less blind, perhaps a substan ial majority or these leaning toward the Republican National ticket. So we simply cannot knee hos as may come out on November kth. I am sending in this suggested preference for myself, and this too lengthy letter of explanation with the hope that you will reserve your final Judgment of committees until after November hth, so that in the event as are successful, you may be able to assign to us as good committee places as your overall picture may permit. Perhaps it is not improper to suggest that last Session the Pinellas delegation did not have any of shat I eould cell "major" committee assignments. Hon. Farris Bryant October 16, 1952 Thanking you for ur consideration, and utth highest personal regards, on, tours moot cordially, S. 3333! KERRIB SHBtFB Att.
