In discussing this matter with Pleas Gay at Jackson- ville Beach, I find that he had had some informal discussion with Farris concerning a visit to Jackson- ville Beach on August 6th with the possibility of Farris spending the morning of the 6th on a carrier at layport, thereafter followed by a banquet in the evening. However, Pleas advises that Farris' secre- tary yesterday requested that Farris' visit to Jack- sonville Beach be limited to the banquet only. In view of this, Pleas indicates that he thinks it well that the Jacksonville Beach plans be coordinated with any plans that might be made for Farris visiting Jack- sonville. As you know, we would like to coordinate Parris' visit so that he would also reach those in Jacksonville who should receive his thanks. However, it occurs to me that such a visit should be on a week day in order to achieve a second purpose in any visit, and that is to discuss local problems with local officials. As Farris already knows, Ray Richardson would like for Farris and Julia and Julie to spend the weekend with him and his wife at the Yerkes bone at Ponte Vedra Beach. Bay suggests that possibly Farris' visit to this area could be on a Friday so that such a week and visit with Ray and his family might be possible. Also in this connection. "Tubby" Courson has likewise issued an invitation for Farris and his family at any time to Ir. Bruce Garwood -2- June 29, 1960 visit the Ponte Vedra Inn as guests of The Inn. In addition some of the civic luncheon clubs have indi- cated that they would like very much to have Farris speak at a Joint luncheon appearance. Undoubtedly this could be arranged should Farris desire to take advantage of such a suggestion. In view of all of the above and should Parris' schedule permit, perhaps he could visit the Duval County area on Friday, August 5th, for the purpose of nesting with the city and county officials at a luncheon or otherwise and later seating with those who worked for his at a supper meeting or otherwise. Should he wish to take advantage of the speaking engagement, this could also be arranged. He could then spend the week end at Ponte Vedra and even take a short cruise upon a carrier, should he desire, on Saturday morning. I will be nest happy to work out any arrangement which Farris might wish in order to accomplish his objective in making an announced visit to this area. with very kindest regards and best wishes to all of you there, I remain, Cordi y yours, )9 De d W. erster DIP/m JONES AND FOIRSTZR
