COAG bys hee Flow Reynard the Fox was honoured of all beasts by the King’s commandment. As soon as this conference was ended, the royal King mounted upon a high throne made in manner of a scaffold, made of fair squared stone, and then commanded a general silence amongst all his subjects, and that every one should take his place according to his birth, or dignity in office, only the fox was placed between the King and the Queen. Then said the King, ‘ Hear, all you noble- men, knights, gentlemen, and others of inferior quality; this Reynard, one of the chief and supreme officers of my household, whose offences had brought him to the least reckoning of his life, as being in the hands of the law and justice, hath this day, in requital of these in- juries, done that noble and worthy service to the State that both myself and my Queen
