IN| time the band of Brownies bright

“" Reached Scottish soil in great delight.
They traveled many miles to see
Where Macbeth met the witches three
While he returned from battle-plain
A hero free from sinful stain.
Though centuries their flight had ta’en
Between the poet and the Thane,
And centuries away had rolled
Since that dramatic tale was told,

The Brownies, with unwearied pace,

Approached ere long the secret place.

Said one: “This is the very spot

The witches danced around the pot,

And stirred the broth that was designed

To poison an ambitious mind,

And to the surface omens bring

To whisper of a future king.”
