Until the shades
of evening fell. .

At length Quebec
appeared in sight,

Perched high upon

the rocky height,

To guard the river deep and wide

That stretched away to ocean tide.
Through narrow streets the Brownies bound
That in the lower town are found,
And then with nimble feet they fly

To reach the upper town so high.
