Cinematic Couture, a display featuring cos- tumes made by designers at the Academy-award winning, London-based costume house, Cosprop, runs from April 7-28. It will be on the first floor of the Grand Court, which is where photos with Santa are taken during the holi- day season. "What the beauty of an exhibition like this is, is that people can see detail- ing that they cannot see in the films," said Nancy Lawson, North American representative for Cosprop and curator of the mall's exhibit. It includes 40 outfits, among them are the pink silk dress worn by Madon- na in "Evita," the period suit worn by Johnny Depp in "Finding Neverland," the silver gown worn to the ball by Drew Barrymore in "Ever After" and the green silk and velvet dress worn by Nicole Kidman in "Por- trait of a Lady," according to a press release. Other pieces include costumes from "Victor, Victoria," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Phantom of the Opera" and Meryl Streep's dress from "Out of Africa," said Michele Jacobs, the mall's director of marketing. Although Cosprop has more than 500 pieces from famous films and televi- sion shows in its collec- tion, the majority of cos- tumes selected for the mall's exhibit are from recent movies, she said. "We selected costumes we thought would appeal to customers that come to the Gardens Mall. We also picked a few for our cus- tomers who like English literature," said Ms. Jacobs. There are also some pieces donned by Eliza- beth Taylor and Angela Lansbury that may delight older viewers, said Ms. Lawson. The pieces will be out in the open, not behind glass, but they are not allowed to be touched, she said. Docents will be on hand to offer more information or answer questions about the costumes, and the area STAR SCOPES James Tucker Week of 04-04-2008 Aries-March 21-April 19 Mars in Aries this week may make you want to fight back when confronted. The Gardens Mall is a privately-owned Forbes Company. A sister Forbes company, the Somerset Collection Mall in Michi- gan, had costumes from Cosprop on display in the fall. It was the first time the costumes had been dis- played outside a museum for a Cosprop exhibition, said Ms. Lawson.
