34. How Compere Macaque Got Malice Caught
 in His Own Trap.

 -ALICE had not gone fishing since the day hehad tricked
 Commere Baleine, the whale, and the three elephants into
 the difficult struggle through which the three elephants had
 turned ten somersaults and broken their necks, that struggle
 which hurtled Commere Baleine back, and would have
 drowned her but for the protection of Damballa Oueddo,
 the Master of the Heaven. But now his greatest desire was
 to eat some of the fishes from Commere Baleine's pool.
 It had been many years since this incident, and Malice
felt that the whale should by now have forgotten all about it.
 <Commere Baleine is not hard hearted not the kind
to wake up the sleeping cat,, Malice said to himself. -She
won't mind giving me a few of her red fish., It was not
true, however; for when Malice entered the domicile of the
whale, Commere Baleine asked from another compartment
of her cave, cWho's there?,
