It is hereby notified for general infor- mation that from 30th September, 1954, Bank of England notes of 10 upwards and Bank of England notes of 5 dated prior to the 2nd September, 1944 all of which have ceased to be legal tender (but have remained payable on present- ation at the Bank of England) may be sent by post from any territory to a banker in the United Kingdom for collection. None of these notes has a metallic thread such as appears in cur- rent 5 notes. Notes should be despatched at the risk of the owner to the usual banking correspondents in the United Kingdom of the owner or of the owner's local bank. Authorised Banks are being given authority to credit the proceeds of notes forwarded from outside the Scheduled Territories to the type of account appropriate to the country of the remitter. The position of all other Bank of England notes remains unchanged.
