STAFF VACANCY PRO-REGISTRAR, CARIBBEAN EXAM- INATIONS COUNCIL The Caribbean Examinations Council (a Body formed and financed by the Governments of the Commonwealth Caribbean) invites applications for the post of Pro-Registrar to be based in the Administrative and Operational Centre for the Western Zone, located in Jamaica. Applications from persons already employed in the Public Services in the Region will also be considered. The Council's task is to introduce a new system of Examinations designed for the special needs of the area. This includes the responsibility of develop- ing syllabuses, conducting examinations and awarding Certificates and Diplomas on the results of the examinations con- ducted throughout the area, including examinations conducted at the request of any of the Member Governments. The Pro-Registrar will be deputy to the Registrar. He will be directly res- ponsible for the conduct of operations relating to the Western Zone. He will work closely with the Registrar, the School Examinations Committee of the Council and the National Committees established in the Participating Coun- tries in the Western Zone. With the ReJistrar he will be responsible to the Administrative and Finance Committee of the Council, and through the Chair- man of the Council, to the full Council itself. Salary and Allowances based on quali- fications and experience will be as follows: Salary J $ 9,000-$10,000 or EC $21,600-$24,000 Allowances-Housing ...... J $2,000 or EC $4,800 per annum E-prttninment ...... J $ 750 or EC $1,800 per annum The officer may be recruited on con- t,,'at, or on secondment from one of the Governments of the Region. An officer appointed on contract will receive a 20% gratuity of basic salary. Passages for the officer and family up to a maxi- mum of J $1,250 or EC $3,000 and freight and other expenses for personal and household effects, not exceeding J $833.33 or EC $2,000, are payable to an officer recruited overseas. The con- tract will be for a period of three years in the first instance, subject to review and possibly renewal.
