The Draft of the West Indies (Federa- tion) Order in Council, 1957, has been laid before Parliament for approval by resolution of each House of Parliament. The Order in Council includes the Con- stitution of the West Indies which will come into operation on the establish- ment of Federation. It is anticipated that both the House of Lords and the House of Commons will consider this Draft and the resolution approving it within the next week. If approval is granted by both Houses, it is expected that the Draft Order in Council will be submitted to Her Majesty in Privy Coun- cil about the end of this month. As soon as Her Majesty makes the necessary Order in Council, the Constitution of the West Indies will become law, but its pro- visions will not come into operation before the arrival of the Governor- General when the Federation will actually come into existence. 23rd July, 1957. The Tripartite Commission, represent- ing the Governments of France, the United Kingdom and the United States of America who under the provisions of Article 20 of the Treaty of Peace with Japan are charged with the disposition of the former German assets in Japan which have been vested in the Commis- sion, hereby gives notice that it will re- ceive, as a matter of grace, claims in respect of such vested assets from per- sons, other than those specified below, who can prove that they have a benefi- cial interest in such property. Excluded persons are: (a) German nationals who resided in Germany during the period 1939- 1948 except persons subject to persecutions. (b) German nationals who resided in Japan during the war and who were repatriated to Germany by order of the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers.
