Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the post of Director of Works, Dominica. particulars of which are as follows:- 1. Appointment: The post is on the permanent and pensionable establishment and the appointment carries with it the lia- bility to transfer to any post of equiva- lent status within the Windward Islands. An appointment may, how- ever, be made on a temporary non- pensionable contractual basis for a period of 3 years in the first instance. 2. Salary: The salary is in the scale 1,300 x 25 -1,500 per annum. 3. Allowances: Transport and subsistence allowances are payable in accordance with local regulations in respect of approved travel on duty. 4. Duties: The officer will be responsible for the administration of the Public Works Department and for the planning and execution of Public Works develop- ment schemes as well as the general supervision of all aspects of the de- partment's work. By virtue of his office the officer is a member of various Boards and Committees. He will also be required to perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned to him by the Administrator. 5. Qualifications: The officer must be a Corporate Member of the Institute of Civil En- gineers, or hold some qualification of equivalent status and should have good administrative experience and ability. 6. Quarters: Quarters are not provided. Should Government quarters become available at any time rental would be charged at the rate of 10% of salary or 5% of the assessed value of the quarters, whichever is less. 7. Passages: Free passages to Dominica will be provide( on first appointment for the officer, his wife and children, not ex- ceeding five persons in all. Children to bq under 18 years of age, unmarried and dependent on the officer. In the case of a contract appointment free return passages will be provided on the satisfactory completion of the contract. 8. Leave and Leave Passages: Vacation leave will be granted at the rate of 45 days for each completed pe--i-r' of 12 months resident service and mav be accumulated up to a maxi- nimum of 183 days. In the case of a contract appointment, vacation leave will be granted at the rate of 1 week for e.?ch completed period of 3 months resident service; such leave to be taken on the satisfactory completion of the period of engagement. Leave passages are provided in accordance with the Windward Islands Leave Passage Regu- lations. 9. General Information: The Officer will be liable to all taxa- tion imposed by local enactments. He will also be subject to the Colonial Regulations, local General Orders, and Financial and Store Rules and subsi- diary legislation in force for the time being. In order to hasten the determination of outstanding claims by nationals of the United Kingdom under Article 78 of the Treaty of Peace with Italy, H.M. Government in the United Kingdom on March 29th, 1957, entered into a Memo- randum of Undertaking with the Italian Government providing (inter alia) that No CLAIMS BY UNITED KINGDOM NATIONALS CAN BE PRESENTED TO THE ITALIAN GOVERN- MENT AFTER SEPTEMBER 28TH, 1957. The Italian Government have agreed to communicate their decisions on all outstanding claims already presented to them, by March 28th, 1958, and as re- gards any further new claims which may be received by them between the date of the Memorandum and September 28th, 1957, will communicate their de- cision in writing to H.M.
