6. Other Duties. The increase of $39,574 is due in part to collections from the estate of a wealthy businessman. 7. During the year the sum of $430,511 was credited to Revenue on account of Colonial Development and Welfare Schemes. This figure is $245,792 more than the Estimates and includes reimbursement of expenditure in respect of the previous year. III. EXPENDITURE. 9. The approved Estimate of Expenditure was t2,611,483 and included $184,719 in respect.of Colonial Development and Welfare Schemes, the Actual Expenditure for the year was $2,846,026. The main heads responsible for the excess of $234,543 were- (a) Head 6A. Central Road Authority $39,759. This was due to increases in expenditure on storm damages $42,719. (b) Head 16. Miscellaneous $40,941. Increases were mainly incurred under (i) Passages of Officers ...... $10,064 (ii) Leave Passages ...... $ 7,472 (iii) Arrears of Salaries ...... $ 5,165 (Hodgens' Report). (c) Head 25. Public Works Annually Recurrent $23,609 due mainly to the purchase of Unallocated Stores. (d) Head 8. Colonial Development and Welfare Schemes $194,050. This increase is due to the expenditure on Schemes approved late in the year and thus not included in the Approved Estimates. 10.
