LAND SETTLEMENT DEPARTMENT, BRITISH GUIANA. VACANCIES FOR SUPERINTENDENTS OF LAND SETTLEMENT SCHEMES. Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Suierintendents of Land Settlement Schemines in the Land Settlement Depart- ment, British Guiana. 2. The posts carry salary on scale A 3: $3,696 x S144-$4,5601/ x $240-$6,720 per annum. The duties of a Superintendent of Land Settlement are, subject to the directions of the Director of Land Settle- ment, to be in charge of and responsible for the efficient administration of ;a Lind Settlement. This involves de- velopment work, including the prepara- tion of' lanl, drainage, and irrigation etc. and the allocation of land to settlers; the inspection and timingof agricultural operations; the keeping of proper statis- tics and accounts: and the supervision of the general welfare of settlers. 4. Candidates should be graduates of a recognized Agricultural College or holders of comparable qualifications in Agriculture. They should have had experience in drainage and irrigation, soil conservation and land utilisation and should be experienced in handling of labour. 5. The posts are on the Pensionable Establishment. Appointment may be either on a permanent pensionable basis, subject, if the candidate is not alieadyin Government's employment. to his being passed medically fit and to his serving a probationary periodl of two years, or on a three-year contract renewable by mutual consent on such terms as may he agreed upon between Government and himself. A contract officer will be en- titled to a gratuity at the rate of 221% of his salary for each completed period of three months service payable either at six-monthly intervals or on comple- tion of the contract period. In the latter case gratuity will be paid in respect of the period of leave granted. Persons over the age of 40 years will normally he appointed on contract. 6. Leave is granted at the rate of 5 days for each month of resident service subject to a maximum of six months. A pensionable officer is required to serve a minimum tour of two years resident service before proceeding on leave. An officer on contract will be eligible for leave on termination of the contract period. 7. If selected from overseas the officer will be provided with -,assages to British Guiana for himself and his wife and children (provided they are under 18 years. unmarried and dependentt on the officer) not exceeding 5 persons in all, provided they either accompany him or join him within twelve months of his departure for British Guiana.
