“the Chairman” means the person appointed
under regulation 3 of the Public Ser-
vice Commission Regulations, 1956, as
Chairman of the Commission and shall
include an acting Chairman ;

“the Commission” means the Public Service
Commission appointed under the Public
Service Commission Regulations, 1956;

“Governor” shall have the same meaning as
in the Ordinance; .

“Member” means any person appointed
under the Public Service Commission
Regulations, 1956, as Chairman or
Member of the Commission, and_ shall
include any person appointed under those
Regulations to be a temporary Member;

‘office of emolument’”’ means any pensiona-
ble or non-pensionable post which is
shown under a Personal Itmoluments
sub-head in the current Hstimates of
the Presidency ;

“officer in charge of prison discipline”’, “ the
Keeper”, ‘subordinate officer” and
‘‘ Visiting Justices” shall have the same
meanings as in the Rules and Regu-
lations for the Government of Prisons
made by the Governor in Council on
the {8th day of August, 1909, -as
amended ;

“promotion ”’ means the conferment upon
a person in the public service of a public
office to which is attached a higher
salary or higher salary scale than that
attached to the public office to which he
was last substantively appointed ;

‘“ public office’, “ public officer” and “ public
service’? shall have the same meanings
as in the Ordinance;

“the secretary? means the person appointed
under the Public Service Commission
Regulations, 1946, as secretary of the
Commission ;
