(+) Notwithstanding the aa con- tained in subsections (1) and (2) of this section the Governor may in any case where the amount of the gratuity p avable thereunder does not exceed the sum of four hundred and eighty dollars, dispense with the production of probate or letters of administration and cause the gratuity to be paid to the dependant or dependants of the officer and, where there is more than one such dependant, may divide the gratuity among the dependauts in such pro- portion as he may think fit. 17.
