Many local and society items of in- terest were crowded out of our last is- sue, as well as some interesting county correspondence, by a press of advertis- ing upon our columns. Jr Mrs. A. G. Reynolds, who has been visiting her husband, superintendent Reynolds of the Wrought Iron Range Co., left last Friday tor a summer visit to friends and relatives in Virginta. Copious rains have fallen thus far during the month, and the nights are delightfully cool and sleep-compelling. July and August are the pleasantest months of the summer in tais incom- parable climate. Dr. and Mrs. Jno. C. L'Engle, of Jacksonville, stopped over Sunday at the Leon, en route to Marianna, where the Dr. will attend a meeting of the managers of the State Reform b-hool, of which board he is a member. Mr. R. M. Pearsall, local agent of the Singer Co., whose health has been bad for some time, has resigned and returned to his former home in Blakely, Ga. He made many friends while here, who will sincerely regret his departure. The summer training school for col- ored teachers opened at the State Nor- mal and Industrial School for colored youth on Monday, with the following faculty: J. A. Ormond, principal; J. H. Coffee and 0. N. Tillman, instruc- tors. Leonard Wilson, colored, who wasar- rested recently by Deputy Sheriff Pop- pell, charged with selling mortgaged property, was taken before Esquire Everett at Miccosukie last week, bound over, and committed to jail in default of bond. Mayor Henderson, as chairman of the citizens' committee, called another meeting of citizens to assemble Monday evening at the City Hall, and seventeen citizens responded. The subscription committee reported $2565 pledged, and an informal dalcussion of possible sites and "ways and means" ensued. Finally it was decided that the same committee, with that appointed by. the 9 council should meet the members of the Commission on their arrival in the city the next day, sni escort them to view the different sites which have been sug- gested and ascertain which of them would be acceptable to the Commission; and the meeting adjourned. Messrs. Stockton and Mathes of the Governor's Mansion Commission arrived in the city Tuesday and were attended by the joint committee on a tour of in- spection of various tentatve sites for tne mansion. They held no formal meeting but took the matter under ad- viseent, appointing another meeting two weeks hence, when the matter of selecting a site will be settled. In the meantime the canvasing com- mnttee of citizens will continweits work, with the expctation of radsh addi- tional funds for the ofwhat- l ever site may be chosen. Lignoski, who was born and spent the earlier years of his youth in Tallahassee, re- moving with his parents to Houston, Texas, when about la years of age. Newspaper readers will alho recall an event which occurred in 1396, in which a Texas Confederate veteran named Mac Stewart was condemned to death, in Mexico, for the killing ot a policeman at Paral, Mexico, in May of t iat year. Stewart s sentence was afterwards commuted to lite imprisonmeitL at Chi- huahua. The connection between tne two persons named is detailed in Texas newspapers just received by The 'I rue Democrat from Mr. Chas r. Cogswell of this city, now sojourning at Bain- bridge, and who is a cousin of Lagnoski.
