Continental writers will be treated briefly.

 A survey of world drama from its origins in ancient times down to the rise of real-
ism. Some of the more important plays in the repertorium of dramatic literature, from
Aeschylus to Turgenev, will be read, analyzed, and discussed.

 The most important British and American writers of twentieth-century prose fiction,
