These projects comprise the beginning work in the Upper Division, and include: an introduction to construction methods, their historical background and current trends; the study of the various building materials, their nature, history, use and measurement; preliminary site reconnaissance, layout, and surveys; excavation; a com- prehensive study of light frame construction including foundations; the preparation and interpretation of construction drawings and the computation of material quantities; the presentation of applied structural design by the continuation of work in strength of materials, action of forces, reactions, bending moments, theories of flexure, shear, de- flection, and the design of simple structural members; the design and installation of plumbing, and the code requirements and trade practices affecting these installations.
