UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 5. The Physical Fitness Test. As long as a student is registered for and attending classes in the regular pro- gram of Required Physical Education, he must take a Physical Fitness Test at the end of each semester. Failure to pass the Physical Fitness Test at the end of any semester shall cause a student to be returned to the Basic Program for further assign- ment. After completing the Elective Program, the student registers for Physical Education and must meet in consultation with a member of the Required Physical Education faculty each semester. Attendance at Classes: Regular attendance in Required Physical Education classes is absolutely necessary, and it is the policy of the University that irregular attendance will be penalized, as described under "Attendance" in the Student Regulations Section of the Catalog. The Required Physical Education Program for Women The University Requirement: Women students are required to register for and participate satisfactorily in four semesters of physical education. So that a student may enjoy a varied and balanced physical education program, she may elect activities of her choice. Unless excused by the college physician, all women students are required to satisfactorily complete a course in swimming or pass an exemption test in swimming. Students taking fewer than ten semester hours, students over twenty-six years of age, and veterans are exempt from this requirement. The program for transfer students is adjusted on an individual basis by the Head of the Department of Required Physical Education. Each student is assigned an adviser who guides her in selecting sports and dance activities adapted to her needs. Through these activities she is offered the opportunity to acquire mental and emotional balance, general physical fitness, and an understanding of the principles of good body mechanics and of healthful living practices. Classification: Each student, upon entering the University, shall submit a record of a medical examination to the Department of Student Health Service, and after consultation with a University physician, shall receive a medical rating. This will specify whether her classification in the Required Program shall be an A (regular) or B (adapted or cor- rective) medical rating. The Programs: * A. The Program for students with an A Medical Rating: 1. Unless excused by the College physician every student is required to pass the swimming exemption test or complete a course in swimming before graduation. 2. To complete the four semester requirements in physical education a student may select activities of her choice from the following areas: a. Rhythmics Modern Dace, Folk and National Dance, Tap Dance, Social Dance and Square Dance. b. Individual and Dual Sports Archery, Golf, Tennis, Recreational Sports, Fencing, Riding, Bowling, and Badminton.
