Graduate Coordinator: E. M. HOFFMANN Graduate study is offered leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in microbiology. Instruction and guidance is collabo- rative among faculty in Arts and Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine, and the Florida Bureau of Laboratories. Prerequisites for admission to graduate study, in addition to those of the Graduate School, are a broad educational base including mathematics, physics, and chemistry through organic and analytical; basic courses in botany and zoology; and preferably at least one course in bacteriology. An undergraduate major in a physical science, engineering, or general biology is usually acceptable. Receipt of an advanced degree requires detailed knowl- edge in biology, microbiology, and chemistry; undergraduate deficiencies may require additional study prior to completion of graduate work.
