COLLEGES Pre-veterinary students integrate ASG 3003C and ASG 3402C into the zoology major as required by the College of Veterinary Medicine. See additional requirements in the College of Veterinary Medicine section entitled Under- graduate Preparation for Veterinary Medicine. BIOLOGY EDUCATION SPECIALIZA- TION: The following curriculum will satisfy the subject matter requirements for biological sci- ence education certification. To obtain secondary certification, however, zoology majors need a B.S. from this program and an M.Ed. from the College of Education. Minimum entry require- ments for the M.Ed. are a 3.0 junior/senior level GPA and a GRE score of 1000. Courses Credits Biology: BSC 2010-2010L, 2011-2011L Integrated Principles of Biology 8 PCB 3063 Genetics 4 PCB 4723C Animal Physiology 5 ZOO 2203C Invertebrate Zoology 4 ZOO 2303C Vertebrate Zoology 4 MCB 3020 Basic Biology of Microorganisms 5 MCB 3020L Basic Biological Microorganisms Lab 2 BOT 2011C Plant Diversity 4 One of the following: PCB 3043-3043L Introduction to Ecology 4 PCB 4044C General Ecology 4 Mathematics: MAC 2311 Analytic Geometry & Calculus 1 4 One of the following: MAC 2312 Analytic Geometry & Calculus 2 4 STA 3023 Introduction to Statistics 3 Chemistry: CHM 2040, 2041-2045L, 2046-2046L or CHM 2045-2045L, General Chemistry 8 or 11 CHM 2200-2200L Organic Chemistry 4 Physics: One of the following sequences: PHY 2053-2055L, 2054-2056L Physics 10 PHY 2004-2004L, 2005-2005L Applied Physics 8 65-71 Recommended electives are Evolution (PCB 4674) and Philosophy of Natural Science (PHI 3400). Students are expected to apply for and complete the secondary education minor (see the College of Education section). This minor requires a 2.6 GPA. HONORS: To qualify for graduation with honors, a student must meet the college require- ment of a 3.5 junior/senior level GPA. For grad- uation with high honors or highest honors, a student must maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 and complete two semesters of research through Individual Studies in Zoology (ZOO 4905; at least 3 credit hours per semester with a grade of B or higher). This research, conducted under the supervision of a zoology faculty member, must be presented as a thesis. If approved, the student will be recommended for high or highest hon- ors. All students desiring to qualify for high or highest honors should see the undergraduate coordinator. The research program should be started by the second semester of the junior year. THE MINOR: Students seeking a minor must complete (with a grade of C or better) BSC 2010-2010L, 2011-2011L, and at least three zool- ogy department PCB or ZOO courses of three or more credits each. A minimum of nine hours must be completed at UF. Individual Studies in -Zoology (ZOO 4905) will not count toward the minor. Students must apply for the minor in 100 AAC before the semester of graduation. OVERSEAS STUDY: Consult a department adviser or the Overseas Study office in 123 Tigert. FRESHMAN YEAR NOTE: To fulfill the Gordon Rule requirement, select courses to satisfy 12 hours in communica- tion and 6 hours in computation. Many general education courses qualify; check the schedule of courses. Six hours of the general education cred- its must be coded international or diversity (I).
