LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES OVERSEAS STUDY: The Department of Geography participates in the university's exchange program with the University of Utrecht. A course on the geography of Europe (GEO 3500) is regularly offered each summer in the Netherlands. GENERAL EDUCATION: The Department of Geography offers courses that satisfy several areas of general education. The principal areas include international studies and diversity (I), social sciences (S), and physical and biological sciences (P, B). In addition, GEA 3223 satisfies the humanities (H) area. Bachelor of Science FRESHMAN YEAR NOTE: To fulfill the Gordon Rule requirement, select courses to satisfy 12 hours in communica- tion and 6 hours in computation. Many general education courses qualify; check the schedule of courses. Six hours of the general education cred- its must be coded international or diversity (I). Geology Read the earlier sections describing general education and CLAS requirements. Refer espe- cially to the Majors and Minors in the College section for program variations and other clari- fying information. At the time this catalog went to press, sev- eral changes were pending in the universal tracking plans for majors and for course level (1000, 2000, etc.) for certain courses in the State University System. Students should consult the relevant department or 100 AAC for up-to-date course information.
