DESCRIPTIONS This is an experiential course consisting of full-time activities in an institutional pharmacy (4 weeks). Supervised involvement in patient care through moni- toring drug therapy, obtinaing patient drug histories, counseling patients, and interacting with health care professionals. S. Credits: 3; Prereq: PHA 3111, PHA 3751 or permis- sion of instructor. A study of dermatological drugs of choice in the treat- ment of the various abnormal skin conditions. The importance of the role of the pharmacist in this area is emphasized and discussed. PHA 4764 Health Care Accessories. S. Credits: 2; Prereq: PH/PD or PH/PHA classification. The study of health care accessories commonly dis- pensed by pharmacists and how to instruct the patient on the proper use of these products. These include opthalmic, pulmonary, nutritional and orthopedic accessories. PHA 4769 Nonprescription Products. F. Credits: 2; Prereq: PH/PD or PH/PHA classification, . PHA 4436. A course for the study of products used by the self- medicating public. Included is material on the symp- toms for which patients seek self-treatment, evalua- tion and selection of products used to treat these symptoms, aspects of patient counseling in the safe and effective use of the product, and the various legal considerations of this class of drugs. PHA 4771 Total Parenteral Nutrition. S. Credits: 2; Prereq: Permission from the instructor. This course provides the pharmacy student with a basic understanding of the principles of intensive nutritional support. The student shall be able to rec- ommend appropriate individualized regimens; moni- tor and assess the patient's clinical response; and eval- uate that clinical response and make appropriate regi- men modifications. Normally no more than 15 hours of the minimum may be transfer credit. The 27 hours must include the histo- ry sequence (PHH 3103, PHH 3402), logic (either PHI 2100 or PHI 3130), not more than 2 courses on the 2000 level, and at least 2 from the 4000 or 5000 level. The history sequence must be completed by majoring stu- dents before any 4000 work is begun. No more than 3 hours of independent study (PHI 4905) shall be count- ed in the minimum. Students with an interest in major- ing should consult the Undergraduate Coordinator. HONORS: For graduation with honors a student must attain a 3.5 overall upper-division average. For high or highest honors a student must also complete an Honors project (PHI 4912) for an additional 3 cred- its. The project is advanced and, usually, independent research under the supervision of a faculty director. Application to undertake the project should be made to the Undergraduate Coordinator by the student and the director together at least one and preferably two semesters before graduation.
