The student is exposed to the common medical problems encountered on the inpa- tient medical service. The emphasis is on the history and physical examination as well as the processes required in the proper work-up and management of a patient. Opportunity is also available for the student to perform the usual ward therapeutic procedures. PAS 4105 Rehabilitative Medicine. F, S, SS. Credits: 3 to 5; May be repeated with change of topic with departmental approval. The student spends time in an of the spinal cord or stroke patients. The student will spend time with the physical therapy department, learning the various techniques utilized on the disabled patient. The stu- dent is involved in the entire management and dis- charge planning of the patient requiring some type of continual care. Exposure is also given to the various community services and agencies available to the patient in the rehabilitative centers. PAS 4110 Hematology/Oncology. F, S, SS. Credits: 3 to 5; May be repeated with change of topic with departmental approval. During this clinical rotation the student performs a peripheral blood differential of white cells. The stu- dent further learns the principles of blood transfu- sions and the steps in management of untoward reac- tions to whole blood therapy. The student is intro- duced to procedures such as bone marrow aspiration and bone marrow biopsies. The student further demonstrates the ability to correlate the history and physical examination with the common hemato- logic problems normally seen on the hematology ser- vice. Hematologic and oncologic management is included. PAS 4120 Neurology. F, S, SS. Credits: 3 to 5; May be repeated with change of topic with departmental approval. This clinical rotation introduces the student to the common in-patient and out-patient neurologic disor- ders. Emphasis is on the complete neurologic history and physical examination and the techniques used on the service. The student is further introduced to the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures unique to neu- rologic service. PAS 4125 Psychiatry. F, S, SS. The stu- dent participates in daily rounds and learns the prop- er use of various medications for various psychiatric disorders.
