Introduction to major trends of post WW II literature written in German. Special attention devoted to West and East German authors such as B611, Grass, Weiss, and Wolf and to Swiss and Austrian writers such as Frisch, Diirrenmatt and Handke. (L) GEW 4750 Women in German Literature. Credits: 3; Prereq: two 3000-level courses or their equivalents. This course focuses (a) on the image of women pre- sented in German literature and (b) on works by German-speaking women writers and their unique contribution to literary history. The approach is inter- disciplinary, and all works are considered in a linguis- tic, political, socio-psychological and philosophical context. (L) GEW 4905 Individual Work. Credits: 3.
