COLLEGES opportunities that are consistent with current degree programs. The Graduate School also will have available information concerning new interdisciplinary curriculum clusters as they are approved. The Institute of Advanced Environmental Studies The Institute of Advanced Environmental Studies is a proposed new research center creat- ed in cooperation with the College of Natural Resources and Environment. The institute is designed to support collaborative partnerships between faculty and students of UF and exter- nal scholars, practitioners, business people, and citizens nationally, internationally, and within the state of Florida. Wherever possible, the insti- tute will encourage working partnerships between science and citizens through civic asso- ciations, institutions of governance, and busi- ness enterprises. The institute will create an exploratory envi- ronment for alternative approaches and per- spectives that integrate traditional research. It will focus scholarship and policies across media, scales, and systems. The institute will be orga- nized as a collaborative network that serves to sponsor integrative scientific inquiry and to host important events that forward those efforts. Its mission complements the new college's teaching vocation, which will integrate the natural sci- ences, engineering, and social sciences in under- standing, designing, and managing complex regional and global interactions between living nature, the physical environment, and people. Subject to both formal official approval of the college and the institute, a small set of core projects and activities will begin in 1993-94, as a base that will change and expand as the life of the institute evolves.
