COLLEGES professional role behaviors. A second profes- sional socialization course and a course in nurs- ing leadership and management support the practicum. Electives permit students to pursue individual interests and to avail themselves of knowledge in other disciplines. A current Florida Registered Nurse license and one year of nursing practice experience are required in addition to the criteria for admission to the College of Nursing undergraduate pro- gram. The Director of RNBSN Studies will advise all registered nurse applicants regarding required course work and placement. Progression The following statements describe condi- tions required for satisfactory progress and the consequences of unsatisfactory progress: A grade of C or better in all required nursing courses. *Students earning less than a C in any required nursing course may repeat that course once on a space-available basis. Students may repeat no more than 6 total semester credits of required nursing courses. Students who repeat courses will have their graduation delayed. Students who fail the same required nursing course twice or who fail more than 6 total semester credits of required nursing courses must withdraw from the program. Students who withdraw may petition the Admissions Committee for readmission on a space-available basis upon completion of a remediation plan, if they meet the admission standards of the class to which they seek readmission. The remediation plan is developed by the program directors and the student's academic adviser. Students in the health professions are held to standards of conduct that exceed those usually expected of university students. Consequently nursing students are required to demonstrate reasonable skill and safe practice in the care of patients, and to adhere to the standards of acceptable conduct outlined in the Florida Nurse Practice Act and the University of Florida Drug-free School and Work Place Policy Statement (refer to a Schedule of Courses). Breaches of conduct are referred to the Health Sciences Center Student Conduct Committee. Benchmark Standards for Admission Students may establish a declared major of nursing upon admission to the university. Pro- gression towards admission to the upper divi- sion major in nursing studies is monitored at 30, 45, and 60 semester hours. Progression stan- dards include courses completed and GPA earned. The progression standards are avail- able from the Office of Admissions, College of Nursing. Honors The purpose of the honors program is to provide a unique and challenging experience for students who have exhibited exceptional academic ability and to develop student creativ- ity and scientific inquiry. Senior students with an upper division GPA of 3.2 and with at least a grade of B in NUR 4165 may apply for the honors program. The honors program provides opportunity in research, ser- vice projects, and other creative endeavors with professionals in various fields of study. Seminar work with scholars in various nursing speciali- ties is a part of this program. The presentation of an honors project and a final GPA of 3.2 are required for graduation with honors, a 3.6 GPA for high honors, and a 3.8 GPA for highest honors.
