College of Health Related Professions The College of Health Related Professions, an academic unit of the Health Science Center, provides an opportunity for students to prepare for various health careers. This college offers professional curricula in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitative services. Master of Health Science degrees are offered in occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabili- tation counseling, and health and hospital administration in cooperation with the Col- lege of Business Administration. The Depart- ment of Clinical and Health Psychology's academic program leads to the Ph.D. in psychol- ogy and the department also offers a nationally accredited predoctoral internship in clinical psy- chology. The Department of Communicative Disorders provides clinical and research oppor- tunities for graduate students in speech patholo- gy and audiology. All these academic programs benefit from accessibility to patients in the Shands Hospital, Inc. and Veterans Administration Medical Cen- ter; availability of staff and faculties of the Col- lege of Medicine; and the presence of the wide range of established course offerings found at the University of Florida. Well-trained team members are essential in every medical, hospital and rehabilitation pro- gram. The proximity of the colleges of Den- tistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine strengthens the respective programs of this college by making it possible for those who are to work together to be trained together. Academic Policies HEALTH POLICY The College of Health Related Professions requires evidence of sound physical health, mental health, and emotional stability for admission. Personnel of the Department of Stu- dent Health will test each Health Related Pro- fessions student for sensitivity to tuberculosis. The Department of Student Health will verify immunization against diphtheria, rubella (Ger- man measles), and tetanus. Students enrolled in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs are required to be immunized against the Hepatitis B virus. Each student registered in clinical courses is required to have some form of hospitalization insurance. Full-time students are eligible for the health insurance plans sponsored by Student Government which may be purchased at the time of registration. This provides 12-month coverage. FINANCIAL AID Students interested in part-time employ- ment, assistantships, loans, prizes, and awards should apply to the Office for Student Financial Affairs, University of Florida, Gainesville, Flori- da. A limited amount of scholarship, trainee- ship, and loan assistance reserved exclusively for students in the College of Health Related Professions is administered by the college. Application for such assistance is made to the department chair where the student plans to major. EXPENSES In addition to the usual university tuition and fees, students will be expected to furnish designated uniforms and shoes for clinical work. This will be necessary for students in occupational therapy and physical therapy in the junior and senior year. Field experience is required of students in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitative services. Students shall be responsible for financing this portion of their preparation. Costs vary depend- ing upon location of the field assignment.
