SPORT AND FITNESS PROGRAMS The elective sport and fitness activities offered by the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences are available to any student provided prerequisite requirements are met. Any course in this program may be taken under the satisfac- tory-unsatisfactory option. Undergraduate Degrees Courses of study leading to three under- graduate degrees are offered: Bachelor of Sci- ence in Exercise and Sport Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Health Science Education, and Bache- lor of Science in Recreation. To graduate, students must complete the curricula requirements as outlined in this cata- log with (1) a minimum grade point average of 2.0, 2.5 for those in teacher education programs; (2) a total of 128 semester hours; and (3) all course requirements in the major field of study. In addition to completing the above require- ments, students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. These experiences enable students to perform many and varied services in their respective schools and commu- nities. Participation in extracurricular activities while in college contributes substantially to future success. Information concerning this expectation may be secured from the student's adviser. Admission The University of Florida and the College of Health and Human Performance encourage applications from qualified students of both sexes from all cultural, racial, religious, and eth- nic groups. Listed below are the specific requirements for admission to this college. It should be understood, however, that minimum requirements are given and that admission to this College is a selective process. The college is unable to guarantee spaces to all applicants who satisfy the minimum requirements. A student's entire record, including educational objectives, pattern of courses completed, quality of previ- ous academic record, and test data, will be con- sidered in evaluating an application for admission. Priority in admission will be given to those applicants whose potential on the basis of their record indicates the greatest likelihood of success in the program requested. All applicants must submit a one-two page letter outlining career goals and related experi- ences relevant to their anticipated major. UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA STUDENTS To be eligible for admission to the College of Health and Human Performance, a University of Florida student must have (1) earned a mini- mum of 30 credits of acceptable college credit with an overall GPA of C or higher on all col- lege-level work attempted; students seeking teacher certification in Health Science Education and Exercise and Sport Sciences must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on all college-level work attempted, (2) completed as many as possi- ble of the lower division courses required for the desired curriculum as indicated in the program for the freshman and sophomore years in this section of the catalog, and (3) obtained a satisfac- tory score on the College Level Academic Skills Test (see the Index, CLAST). TRANSFER STUDENTS To be eligible for admission to the College of Health and Human Performance, a transfer stu- dent must satisfy the minimum requirements for admission to an upper division college set forth in the ADMISSIONS section of this cata- log. All applicants must have completed two sequential courses of foreign language in sec- ondary school or the equivalent of 8-10 semester hours at the postsecondary level. Additionally, the applicant should have completed the cours- es required for the desired curriculum, or their equivalents, as indicated in the program for the freshman and sophomore years in this section of the catalog, and complete the application letter previously described.
