COLLEGES Graphic Design is a professional program that leads to careers in graphic design and relat- ed fields. The curriculum includes a series of courses in Design, Drawing, 2D, 3D and 4D Stu- dio courses and Art History. In the professional field, Lettering, Layout, Graphic Design Photog- raphy, and Illustration are included. Deadline for portfolio and application for admission at the 3000 course level is April 1 for entrance in the fall semester. The portfolio of recent art work should include drawing and design projects. CURRICULUM IN ART HISTORY LEADING TO THE BACHELOR OF ARTS. The Bachelor of Arts degree offers Art Histo- ry classes in the following areas: Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance/Baroque, Modern and Non-Western. Students who plan to enter a pro- gram of graduate study in art history are encour- aged to take courses in all of these areas. At least one in four of the five is required of all majors. Students wishing to elect an Art History major should complete 45 hours of general edu- cation requirements in their freshman/sopho- more years. In addition, all students must complete ART 1802 (3 cr.) and ART 1803 (6 cr.) with a grade of C or higher. Students must com- plete ARH 2050, ARH 2051, and HUM 2518 with a B average minimum. Only one C is allowed in the three courses. Courses used to satisfy General Education requirements in Literature and the Arts and Social and Behavioral Sciences must be complet- ed with a minimum B average. ARH 2050 may be used to satisfy 3 credits of the General Education Literature and the Arts requirement. ARH 2051 and HUM 2518 may not be used to satisfy General Education require- ments. The intermediate level must be taken at UF with a minimum grade of "C". The accepted languages are French and German through FRE 2200 or GER 2200. The elementary level may be taken S/U. CURRICULUM IN ART EDUCATION, LEADING TO THE BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ART EDUCATION. The curriculum in Art Education is designed for students who plan to teach art in the public schools. Students completing this curriculum, which is offered in cooperation with the College of Education, are qualified for certification as teachers of art in the state of Florida and all other NCATE states. ADMISSION As a prerequisite for admission into the art education program, a student must receive a minimum composite score of twenty (20) on the Enhanced American College Test or a minimum composite score of eight hundred forty (840) on the Scholastic Aptitude Test, and a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Satisfactory Progress A grade of C or better is required in all Art Education and Education courses. Students intending to major in Art Educa- tion are urged to become familiar with the requirements established by the College of Edu- cation for admission to the advanced profes- sional sequence. (See College of Education requirements.) Students must make special application to the Director of Student Teaching, 100 Norman Hall. Applications for the fall semester may be picked up after February 1 and must be received no later than April 1. Applications for the spring semester may be picked up after April 15 and must be received no later than September 15. Because student teaching is a full-time com- mitment, student teachers may not register for any other course or be employed on weekdays while student teaching. TEACHER CERTIFICATION An applicant for initial regular certification in Florida must receive a passing score on a teacher certification examination administered by the state Department of Education prior to regular certification.
